This partnership will provide the scale needed to meet growing global demand for the award-winning, plant-based product marketed as JUST Egg in the United States.
Based in Emlichheim, Germany, Emsland Group has been manufacturing innovative pea and potato products that have been essential ingredients in a wide range of food applications since 1928. The partnership with JUST to process mung bean protein, the key ingredient in JUST Egg, is a first for the venerable agricultural cooperative and will help ensure a manufacturing infrastructure for JUST Egg that is reliable, efficient and scalable.
Today’s news follows JUST’s December acquisition of a 30,000 square foot facility in Appleton, Minnesota specializing in patented protein extraction methods for JUST Egg. This also follows the company’s announcement in March of a host of global strategic partnerships to manufacture and distribute JUST Egg in North America, Europe, Latin America and East Asia.
Emsland Group‘s protein processing partnership with JUST and its expertise in the extraction and use of starch for various food products are key elements in making JUST Egg one of the cheapest and most most sustainable on the planet. This alliance will allow industrial partners easier access to mung bean protein and create a new source of revenue from the sale of the high starch content of the legume.

The sales velocity of JUST Egg’s Grocery in the United States has increased by 51% since December, with significant gains in major national chains. In April, a new frozen, folded JUST egg made its retail debut and at one of the top five US supermarkets, speed increased by 150% within weeks. Additionally, a growing number of quick-service restaurants and other dining destinations like college campuses, amusement parks, hospitals, and corporate cafeterias have added JUST Egg to their menus.
