Bombay, July 31:
Kedar Dighe, nephew of late Sena stalwart Anand Dighe, has been appointed as the new district chief of Thane, the territory of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde,
by party leader Uddhav Thackeray.
Anand Dighe is reported to be the mentor of Shinde, who rose through the ranks of the Shiv Sena during his political career. The post had become vacant after Naresh Mhaske resigned in favor of Shinde.
Anita Birje, a close associate of the late Dighe and who led Sena’s women’s wing, was named “deputy leader”. Pradip Shinde has been appointed chairman of the city of Thane Shiv Sena, Chintamani Kharkhanis as Thane Shiv Sena’s spokesperson, party secretary Vinayak Raut said in a statement.
A rebellion led by veteran Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde and 39 MPs led to the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray last month.
Shinde was sworn in as chief minister on June 30 with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis as deputy CM.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has been arrested in a land scam case by the Law Enforcement Directorate.
