SOKAPU warns against the formation of a Fulani self-defense group

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union has condemned the decision of the Fulani herdsmen under the aegis of “Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore” to form an armed vigilante force.

The Miyetti Allah group said the formation of the force to bear arms was aimed at protecting herders across the country, particularly in Benue state.

But SOKAPU, an umbrella organization of the Kaduna people of southern Kaduna state, argued that the Fulani’s decision to bear arms was a call for anarchy and another civil war in the country.

According to SOKAPU in a statement by its spokesperson, Luka Binniyat, in Kaduna on Thursday, if Fulani herders were allowed to form Vigilance Force, then other ethnic nationalities should be allowed to form theirs.

Therefore, the union has urged the chairman, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret’d) not to treat Miyetti Allah’s decision to form a vigilante force as lightly as usual.

SOKAPU noted that by now the presidency should have acted quickly to request the interrogation of the leadership of the Miyetti Allah group, saying, “This is what a serious country will do.”

However, the union has praised Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle for forming a volunteer vigilante service to be trained by the Nigerian police, urging other states in the Middle Belt and North region to follow suit. Zamfara State coxswain.

The statement read in part: “The bad news that Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a powerful Fulani socio-cultural group, is in the process of forming its own vigilante group, should alarm all Nigerians who care about Nigeria’s existence. as a corporate entity.

“The group’s general secretary, Saleh Hassan, made the grim revelation four days ago in an interview he gave to the International Center for Investigative Reporting.

“Hassan should have been interrogated to find the real motive for such an unwarranted plan and to determine how far his group went in the scheme. In fact, the group should have been banned. That’s what a serious country will do. .

“The Fulani, even as a large ethnic group, have no exclusive statehood in almost any state in Nigeria and certainly do not originate from Benue State or anywhere in the middle belt.

“With over 200 communities in southern Kaduna sacked and displaced by armed herdsmen and allied criminals after hundreds have been killed and others injured, the sight of an armed Fulani self-defense force on our soil will be a very provocative act that will push other tribes to form the same. ”

He added: “Therefore, any attempt to allow the Fulani to train, arm, equip and operate an armed wing in such a brazen way is tantamount to also allowing other ethnic groups to do the same.

“In other words, SOKAPU is saying that a civil war can break out if the Fulani and other ethnic groups obtain arms for the sole purpose of protecting themselves as groups under various independent commands.

“President Mohammadu Buhari must not take this lightly, even though he likes to gloss over serious security concerns. For the avoidance of doubt, SOKAPU condemns the formation of the Fulani Vigilante force.

“No state government should allow a tribal group to form its own Vigilante group. It is a direct line to insurrection and separatism.

“At this juncture, SOKAPU wishes to salute the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, for forming a voluntary self-defense service which he will train and arm under the supervision of the Nigerian Police.”

“We encourage other governors in the middle and northern belt to copy Governors Ortom and Matawall in their drive to secure their states.”
